The admission test provides a pathway for candidates who have strong WASSCE results but narrowly missed the direct admission cut-off for their preferred programme.

For Business applicants, tests Mathematics, Economics, and Accounting. For Arts applicants, tests English, History, and a chosen elective. For Law applicants, tests English, Literature, and Government or History. Each paper is typically 1-2 hours, consisting of MCQs and short-answer questions. The test is conducted on the Legon campus.

Eligibility Criteria

WASSCE with required grades. Legon admissions are competitive with cut-off points per programme. Candidates must have a minimum of 6 credits in WASSCE including English and Mathematics (for most programmes). The admission test is typically offered to candidates whose WASSCE grades meet the programme's minimum subject requirements but whose aggregate score is slightly below the cut-off for direct admission. What is Legon ADM and how does university admission work in Ghana?
Legon ADM (Admissions Test) refers to the University of Ghana (UG) admissions process for undergraduate programmes at Legon, Accra — Ghana's premier university. The University of Ghana uses a combination of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and the Legon ADM test for certain programmes. The Legon ADM test is typically required for competitive programmes where WASSCE alone is insufficient for selection. The test is conducted by the University of Ghana's IT Services and admissions office. For most programmes, applicants need 6 credits (A1–C6) in their WASSCE including English Language, and additional programme-specific requirements.
What programmes require the Legon ADM test?
The Legon ADM test is required for the most competitive programmes at the University of Ghana including: Law (LLB), Medicine and Surgery (MBChB), Engineering (BSc Engineering), Business Administration (BBA), and Architecture. For these programmes, a strong WASSCE result alone is not sufficient — candidates must also pass the university's own admissions test. The test content varies by programme: Law requires an entrance test in Legal Reasoning and English; Medicine may require an interview; Engineering requires Mathematics and Science reasoning tests. Candidates should check the University of Ghana admissions portal for the specific test format for their programme.
How can international students apply to University of Ghana Legon?
International students (non-Ghanaian WASSCE holders) apply to the University of Ghana through the same admissions portal as Ghanaian students but may have a separate admissions process. Applicants with foreign qualifications (e.g., GCSE/IGCSE, American High School Diploma, IB) must have their certificates evaluated by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) or the National Accreditation Board. International students also need to demonstrate English language proficiency. For Medicine, Law, and other competitive programmes, the Legon ADM test or interview is also required. The University of Ghana has dedicated international student support through the Office of International Education.
