Hadith-e-Jibrael: In the famous Hadith of Jibrael, the angel asked about:

  1. Islam (outward acts)
  2. Iman (inward beliefs)
  3. Ihsan (perfection of worship)

CSS Tip: Know the Hadith of Jibrael (Hadees-e-Jibreel) — it’s a foundational hadith about the fundamentals of Islam. The Prophet (SAW) described Islam as 5 things, Iman as 6 things, and Ihsan as worshipping Allah as if you see Him.

Ibadat — Detailed Study Guide

1. Shahada (Declaration of Faith)

Arabic: لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ Translation: “There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”

Requirements for Shahada:

  1. Knowledge (Ilm): Knowing what you say
  2. Conviction (Yaqeen): Certainty, no doubt
  3. Sincerity (Ikhlas): Saying with pure intention
  4. Truthfulness (Sidq): Speaking truth from heart
  5. Love (Mahabbah): Loving Allah and Prophet more than anything
  6. Submission (Inqiad): Following what the Shahada entails

What Shahada Rejects:

  • All false gods and deities
  • Polytheism (Shirk) in any form
  • Atheism and disbelief

What Shahada Affirms:

  • Tauheed (Oneness of Allah)
  • Risalah (Prophethood of Muhammad SAW)
  • Obedience to Allah and His Messenger

2. Salah (Prayer)

Significance:

  • Second pillar of Islam
  • 50 prayers initially commanded, reduced to 5 (with reward of 50)
  • Hadith: ” Salah is the measure of a person’s Deen” (Mishkat)
  • First action judged on Day of Judgment

Sunnat and Nafl:

  • Sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah: Highly recommended (following Prophet’s practice)

Conditions of Salah:

Wudu (Ablution) — Fard Acts:

  1. Intention
  2. Washing face (including rinsing mouth and nose)
  3. Washing both hands up to elbows
  4. Wiping head with wet hands
  5. Washing both feet up to ankles

How to Perform Salah:

  1. Niyyah: Intention
  2. Takbir-e-Tahrimah: “Allahu Akbar” — standing
  3. Qira’at: Recitation of Surah Fatiha + another Surah
  4. Ruku: Bowing
  5. Sajdah: Prostration (2 sajdahs per rakat)
  6. Tashahhud: Sitting position with prayers
  7. Tasleem: “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah”

3. Zakat (Charity/Almsgiving)

Definition: Obligatory charity — 2.5% of wealth above minimum threshold (Nisab) given annually

Nisab (Exemption Limit):

  • Gold: 7.5 tola (87.48 grams)
  • Silver: 52.5 tola (612.36 grams)
  • Cash/Trade goods: Equivalent value

Prohibition:

  • Zakat cannot be given to: Own parents, children, spouse, non-Muslims
  • Hashimi rule: Cannot give to Banu Hashim (Prophet’s family) — disputed among scholars

4. Sawm (Fasting)

Definition: Abstaining from food, drink, and other invalidating acts from Fajr to Maghrib

Ramadan Fasting:

  • 9th month of Islamic calendar
  • Obligatory for: Every adult Muslim (with exceptions for illness, travel, menstruation, elderly)
  • Reward: Fasting is鲤 for Allah — “Whoever fasts in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins are forgiven” (Bukhari, Muslim)

Things That Break Fast:

  • Intentional eating/drinking
  • Sexual intercourse
  • Intentional vomiting
  • Menstruation/post-natal bleeding
  • Anything considered food through any orifice

Things That Do NOT Break Fast:

  • Unintentional eating/drinking (if forgotten)
  • Injections (nutritive vs. non-nutritive — scholarly debate)
  • Bathing, swimming
  • Kissing (without desire)

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)

Definition: pilgrimage to Mecca — obligation once in a lifetime for those who can afford it

Hajj Season: 8th-12th Dhul Hijjah (Islamic month)

  3. Aql (Sound mind)
  4. Freedom (not slave)
  5. Financial ability
  6. Physical ability (to travel)

Hadith of Jibrael — Detailed

Narration: Omar ibn al-Khattab reported that he heard the Prophet (SAW) say: “Verily the establishment of the prayer was enjoined upon me at fifty prayers, then it was reduced until it was made five prayers…”

Three Aspects Asked by Jibrael:

1. Islam (أسلام) — The outward practice:

  1. Testify La ilaha illallah
  2. Establish prayer
  3. Give Zakat
  4. Fast in Ramadan
  5. Perform Hajj (if able)

2. Iman (إيمان) — The inward belief:

  1. Believe in Allah
  2. Believe in His Angels
  3. Believe in His Books
  4. Believe in His Messengers
  5. Believe in the Day of Judgment
  6. Believe in Divine Decree (Qadar — good and bad)

3. Ihsan (إحسان) — The spiritual perfection: “Worship Allah as if you see Him. And if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you.”

The Spirit of Ibadat

Ihlas (Sincerity)

  • All worship must be for Allah alone
  • Hadith: “Actions are judged by intentions” -riya (showing off) destroys reward

Following Sunnah

  • Prophet’s way is the best
  • Bid’ah (innovations in religion) are condemned
  • Hadith: “The best guidance is Muhammad’s guidance”

Taqwa (Piety/God-Consciousness)

  • The purpose of all Ibadat
  • “The best among you are those who have most Taqwa” (Hujurat: 13)
  • Taqwa is not just ritual — it transforms character

Islamiccalendar (Hijri Calendar)

Months of the Year:

  1. Muharram (محرم) — 1st month, fasting on Ashura
  2. Safar (صفر)
  3. Rabi al-Awwal (ربيع الأول) — Mawlid (Prophet’s birthday)
  4. Rabi al-Akhir (ربيع الثاني)
  5. Jumada al-Awwal (جمادى الأولى)
  6. Jumada al-Akhirah (جمادى الآخرة)
  7. Rajab (رجب) — Israb/Mi’raj
