📋 Exam Pattern

The Manipal MET for undergraduate engineering programmes (B.Tech) consists of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main sections, with questions designed to test conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities at the 10+2 level. For MBBS admission, NEET UG scores are accepted, though MAHE may also conduct its own MET for other health sciences programmes. The BBA/MBA MET consists of sections on English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness. The exam is conducted in online (computer-based) mode. The duration and number of questions vary by programme. For B.Tech, there are typically 200 questions to be completed in 2 hours 30 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions — Manipal MET

Everything you need to know about Manipal MET. Scroll down for the complete study guide.

What is MET and which universities accept it?
MET (Manipal Entrance Test) is conducted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) for admission to its flagship B.Tech programmes at MIT Manipal (the original and most prestigious Manipal institute), as well as Manipal University Jaipur and Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. MET is the only entrance exam accepted for Manipal's own programmes — unlike some universities that accept multiple scores. MET is conducted annually (typically May) in online (CBT) mode at centres across India and internationally. Over 50,000 students appear for MET each year, competing for approximately 2,000 B.Tech seats across all campuses.
What is the MET exam pattern?
MET consists of 160 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes) on a computer. The sections are: Physics (50 questions), Chemistry (50 questions), Mathematics (50 questions), and English (10 questions). Each correct answer carries 4 marks; there is no negative marking. The exam is conducted online (CBT) in multiple shifts. Since there is no negative marking and all questions carry equal weight, candidates are encouraged to attempt all questions — even uncertain guesses carry a 25% chance of being correct. MET is generally considered easier than JEE Main in terms of difficulty level.
How does MET counselling and admission work?
MET counselling is conducted by MAHE through its own centralised process (no JoSAA or state counselling). After MET results are declared, candidates fill their programme and campus preferences online. Seat allocation is based on MET rank, preferences, and availability. MIT Manipal offers B.Tech in all major branches including Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, and others. The fee structure at MIT Manipal is approximately ₹3–4 lakhs per semester (tuition only) — one of the more expensive private engineering colleges in India, but with strong placement records (top recruiters include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs). Students who score well in MET get first choice of campus and branch.
