What is GUJCET and who is it for?
GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test) is a state-level engineering entrance exam conducted by GSEB (Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board) for admission to B.E./B.Tech programmes in colleges across Gujarat. It is primarily for students who have completed their H.S.C. (Class 12) from the GSEB board — but students from other boards (CBSE, ICSE) are also eligible to appear. GUJCET is typically held in April, and the result is combined with JEE Main scores for the Gujarat admission process.
What is the GUJCET exam pattern?
GUJCET consists of two papers: Physics-Chemistry (100 questions, 120 minutes) and Mathematics (50 questions, 60 minutes). All questions are multiple-choice with four options. Each correct answer carries 1 mark. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. The exam is conducted offline (pen-and-paper) at designated centres across Gujarat. The questions are based on the GSEB Class 12 syllabus.
How is GUJCET used for Gujarat engineering admission?
Gujarat admissions use a combined merit calculated as: JEE Main percentile (weight 48%) + GUJCET marks (weight 12%) + Class 12 Board marks (weight 40%). This combined score determines the state merit rank for counselling under the Gujarat Admission Professional Bodies. Through this process, students can secure seats in government colleges like LD College of Engineering, government-aided institutions, and private colleges across Gujarat. The top colleges — L.D. College of Engineering, Dharmsinh Desai University, DDIT — typically require a state rank within 1,000.
